RECIPES FOR ORCAS COVE SELECT SMOKED SALMON
Our guests on the Orcas Cove tour consistently rave about the wild smoked silver salmon that we serve on board the mother-ship Sea Spree.
Orcas Cove Select is caught in Alaska, smoked to our recipe by a family owned smokehouse and privately labelled for Southeast Sea Kayaks. Not only is it delicious, it’s also a wild, local, sustainable seafood, packed with protein and heart healthy omega 3s.
We eat it all the time and are delighted to share with you some of our favorite recipes.
SMOKED SALMON DIP
Every Alaskan household has their own smoked salmon dip recipe, here’s our family’s favorite (with thanks to Aunty Pat). We serve it with celery sticks and carrots for dipping at school parties or with rice crackers as a gluten free hors d’oeuvre. It also makes a great bagel spread.
- 1 can Orcas Cove Select Smoked Salmon, drained
- 1 block cream cheese
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon ranch dressing powder
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- Splash of Tabasco
- Cracked black pepper to taste
Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix with a spatula or wooden spoon.
SEA SPREE CLASSIC SMOKED SALMON PICNIC
We’ve served several thousand of these snacks since we began the Orcas Cove tour in 2003, it presents beautifully and makes a great hors d’oeuvre.
- 1 (or more) cans Orcas Cove Select Smoked Salmon, drained
- Cream cheese
- Cucumbers, thinly sliced
- Red onion, diced
SMOKED SALMON BREAKFAST IDEAS
Orcas Cove Select smoked salmon on bagels with cream cheese and capers is a favorite breakfast at our house. You can also use smoked salmon in place of Canadian bacon in Eggs Benedict or add smoked salmon to scrambled eggs and omelets.
SMOKED SALMON CHOWDER
We love to welcome visitors and our new staff with a big pot of smoked salmon chowder accompanied by sourdough bread. Our favorite recipe is Mimi’s Smoked Salmon Chowder.
SMOKED SALMON SUSHI
Sushi is Declan’s favorite food. Here’s how to make his favorite sushi roll, the “Sea Spree.”
- Sushi rice, cooked and cooled
- Orcas Cove Select Smoked Salmon
- Cucumber cut into ribbons
- Cream Cheese cut into thin strips
Layer rice and other ingredients in your Sushezi and roll with nori.
